The Eye Exam
Eye Disease and Emergencies The doctors at GELC are trained and licensed to detect eye disease and prescribe medications for the eye, including the treatment of glaucoma. We specialize in removing embedded foreign bodies from the eye, diagnosing and treating red eye problems, eye infections, allergies, dry eyes and all forms of medical eye problems. If you have a medical eye problem, please inform the receptionist when you call. We see patients with urgent eye problems immediately. Contact Lens Services The doctors at GELC specialize in contact lenses and are nationally recognized for their expertise. They have conducted numerous FDA clinical research studies on new lens materials, published numerous articles in medical journals on contact lens topics, presented contact lens lectures internationally, consulted and served on advisory boards with major manufacturers (such as Vistakon, Ciba, Bausch & Lomb) and even authored a chapter in a textbook on contact lens fitting. We fit all types of contact lenses and maintain large lens inventories, including diposable, soft toric, bifocal, rigid gas permeable, tinted and orthokeratology. Wearing contact lenses is easier than ever! Low Vision Care (for the visually handicapped) Low vision is a specialized field of eye care that helps people with reduced vision that is not correctable with normal eyeglasses. Our doctors and technicians perform specialized evaluations to measure the vision that is still present, and to test and demonstrate a large variety of visual aids and devices that allow the patient to function visually. These devices include simple magnifiers, eyeglass telescopes, binoculars, television magnifying systems, special lamps, tinted lenses and many more. We counsel patients with partial sight on how to make the most of their life, in spite of a visual disability. Pediatric Optometry 80% of all that children learn comes through the sense of vision. Special techniques are used to safeguard the visual health of children at Gailmard Eye & Laser Center. Our caring staff makes the visit not-so-scary and we use special kid-friendly instruments to gather critical data without having to ask judgment questions like "which is better, 1 or 2?". We test binocular vision functions and eye coordination, which relate to visual skills used in learning. We only prescribe glasses when they are truly necessary, and we dispense high-quality frames and lenses with kid-tough guarantees. We fit contact lenses for children and teenagers, and teach them how to handle them safely. |
